Trip Log

Notes Actions
I got nothin'. After the sheer terror I experienced doing this scramble with snow (see April 14) on it, I'm proud to say I wasn't much scared today, just nervous in a couple of places. However, "enjoy" would be too strong of a word for how I felt about this trip... I can say that for most of the time it didn't completely suck.

Am I proud that I conquered some fears over the last time? Nah, not really. I think I would be just as frightened in the snowy conditions from last time. Although, I was definitely less scared than I would have been a few years ago when my "comfort zone" was a little tighter. But, since I didn't really enjoy the activity, there's nothing to make me feel like "wow, it was really worth it to push my limits for this".

To re-iterate one of the things I said on April 14th, I have met the requirement to try scrambling before writing it off as an activity. I gave it the required "second chance" because it wouldn't be so bad without the snow (this is very true). For now, at least, I am done with scrambling. The steep up isn't so bad in some places - almost kind of enjoyable. But I don't care for the "high up" views - I like the mid-level views with stuff above and below me (I know, I know, it's me against everyone else in the world) and I DEFINITELY don't care for the steep down, especially with all the loose rock that constantly tries to fling me onto body parts that aren't made to be in contact with the ground.

Again, it sounds like the rest of the group had a lovely day, and the company today was fabulous - a really enjoyable group (except maybe for yours truly). It was great to have Hong from Toronto join us (she's truly one of us now... altitude shmaltitude), and Will The Stranger who has been meaning to join our club but just "hadn't gotten around to it yet" (we met him at the summit).

Signing off from my scrambling career,

-- Rhonda
