This event just got off to a bad start right out of the chute when Brent discovered that he'd left his pedal and wrench on the roof of the car when we left home for the event. Sunny thought he might have a spare bike to lend, but turned out his dad already had the spare. So, with great disappointment, Brent left the event to go in search of the missing pedal and wrench. The rest of us set out as planned, but it didn't take us long to just toss the planned route away and do our own thing. With road construction and heavy/crazy traffic, it was shaping up to be no fun at all. So, when we got to Little Italy, we tried to take La Dolce Vida up on their offer of "Italian Ice Cream" only to discover... it is a seedy bar with no "Italian Ice Cream" to be found. Christine suggested gellato on the far side of the High Level Bridge, which sounded good to us, so we headed through downtown on Sunny's Edmonton Ghetto Tour (although no one would let me stop for a "25c Peep" - party poopers) and across the High-Level Bridge. It was at the gellato place (good gellato, but it costs A MILLION DOLLARS and they only accept cash) that Brent actually caught up with us, after having found the pedal and wrench about seven blocks from where we live. Yay! We returned to our cars via Groat Road and 127, which I love. So, it turned out to be a great evening after all, with a good improvisation route, and Brent joining halfway through.
