CCC - Music Appreciation Night

Arrive at 7PM for introductions and to get settled in. We'll start listening to the music selections at 7:30 (sorry, but to avoid interruption if you are later than 7:30, the door buzzer will be shut off and you won't be able to get in). We should have approximately 80 minutes of music (8 people times ten minutes of music). After we listen, we discuss! :)

My apartment is small, and the atmosphere casual. We'll be sitting or laying around the living room while we listen. Bring a pillow or cushion if you like for maximum comfiness.

Everyone must contribute 6-10 minutes of music for the evening (See "Required Items to Bring" below). I am not going to provide any guidelines about what genre of music to contribute - that is your choice, but please select something that you care about and would like to share with other music lovers.

I only have room in my apt for 8 bodies, and room on an 80-min CD for 8 ten-minute selections, so please sign up for this get-together ONLY if you're serious about contributing some music selections, and attending the get-together.

CCC - Ellis Bird Farm Bug Jamboree and Butterfly Count

This is a FAMILY event, but being a BUG FREAK I figure they won't have any trouble letting me in the door. :)

Join me for Ellis Bird Farm's Bug Jamboree and Butterfly Count. It will be a morning event so we have to get an early start. After the event, we can grab lunch in Lacombe or Red Deer... or maybe we'll hit the PaSu Sheep Farm on the way back.

At Ellis Bird Farm, butterfly gardens, orchards, native wildflower gardens, hummingbird gardens and water gardens are linked by a network of trails. For the Bug Jamboree, they will have five entomologists there, including John Acorn The Nature Nut.

What a great day - I'm so glad we went! When we first got there, John Acorn was singing some songs and I thought "Uh-oh... this event is really just for kids" but then when he finished, they had entomologists set up at five different stations throughout the facility to explain different things about bugs. The guy with the caterpillars was great - I love wooly bear caterpillars (I used to play with them as a child in Lynn Valley), but my favorite (I think everyone's favorite) was the guy set up at the pond who had a bunch of nets for people to pull bugs out of the water (into a bug tub on the shore) so we could see them and learn about them. There were lots of fresh water shrimp, and the back swimmers were really cool. There was an empty caddis fly larvae case, but no caddis fly larvae while I was around - nuts!

A special treat for me was running into my friend, Sondra, who I had lost contact with a couple years ago when I had an e-mail switch. We got caught up and exchanged current contact information. :)

Anyone who hasn't gone out of town with the CCC (or COC) on an event, is missing out on one of the best parts - CARPOOL! Sonia and her son met us up there, but the rest of us piled into Marc's big SUV and had a fantastic time. We stopped at the Rusty Pelican in Red Deer for lunch on the way up, and stopped in Red Deer again on the way back for ice cream. You just can't beat carpool conversation (none of which can be repeated here).
