We will meet at the ticket between 11:50 and 12:05. Movie starts at 12:25.

Two sisters, Anne and Mary Boleyn, are driven by their ambitious Father and Uncle to advance the family's power and status by courting the affections of the King of England. Leaving behind the simplicity of country life, the girls are thrust into the dangerous and thrilling world of court life--and what began as a bid to help their family develops into a ruthless rivalry between Anne and Mary for the love of the King. Initially, Mary wins King Henry's favor and becomes his mistress, bearing him two illegitimate children. But Anne, clever, conniving and fearless, edges aside both her sister and Henry's wife, Queen Katherine of Aragon, in her relentless pursuit of the King. Despite Mary's genuine feelings for Henry, her sister Anne has her sights set on the ultimate prize; Anne will not stop until she is Queen of England. As the Boleyn girls battle for the love of a King--one driven by ambition, the other by true affection--England is torn apart.

Oh my... I guess I officially owe Joel two hours of his life that he'll never get back. He is kinder than me, and gives the movie more points than I do, which still isn't saying much.

I think the biggest problem is that they had too much information to pack into a short amount of time. Instead of being a compelling, well-told story, it was a two-hour stream of strung-together scenes of schemes, betrayals, confrontations and seductions. I would have been better off staying home and watching The Young and The Restless re-runs.

Some of the characters were well played. The father, the mother, Mary Boleyn (played by Scarlett Johannson) and Catherine (the first queen) were well done. The biggest spaghetti, I thought, was the king. From one scene to the next his behavior and feelings did not seem consistent at all, and his character was written as though he had nothing else in the world to do but flit from one woman to the next for one reason after another. What happened to running the country? Waging battles? Doing ANYTHING kingly?

Bah! Save your time, and your money.
