The ride to Gondrexange today was supposed to be about 41km but because of a couple of wrong turns it ended up being more like 46.

We started off in light rain and followed the canal west of Saverne. The highlight of the day for both of us was the old canal beyond the current canal - it was beautiful and interesting. We rode through a lot of rain to the top of the hills that separate Alsace from Lorraine and I foolishly thought we were done with rain for the day. Oh no. We had plenty of rain the rest of the way, and for a thankfully brief time, some hail that seemed to really have it in for my nose.

Along the old canal we found an abandoned restaurant that is now guarded by a pair of grumpy old garden gnomes.

As you can tell from the photo, Nemo didn’t seem to mind the climbing or the weather.

Since it’s supposed to be clear this evening, with a little rain overnight and then clear tomorrow, we have opted to camp instead of renting one of the trailers at Camping Les Mouettes. I hope it’s not a decision we regret.
