Did I say West Elk Pass and Fox Lake? Oops... that's not exactly what we did. We started off on the trackset x-c ski trail (not on the tracks, of course) and slogged up that big hill. Once I reached the top of the hill, I noticed my group about ten feet to the right, on an unofficial snow shoe trail, and we decided that we would try out that trail instead - it was much more enjoyable than the hard-packed trackset trail. We tromped along the narrow snow show trail, through thick forest, up and down (but mostly up), and ended up walking all the way up what we believe was Blueberry Hill, where I understand Judy found her thrill (I haven't confirmed if anyone else found their thrill on Blueberry Hill). Judy's thrill was the view from the top in the beautiful conditions on her very first snow shoe trip in the mountains (she just moved here from Kenora). It really was a tremendously beautiful day and very enjoyable trip. If this unofficial trail lives a fairly persistent life, and I highly suspect that it does, I totally recommend checking it out. It was WONDERFUL.

But, I digress... I can't believe I got so excited about the trip that I forgot to start my write-up with a sound mocking of the "gong show" carpool, with Ken, our wallet-less driver who had to beg me to pick up the gas tab, and Princess Shelley, who, true to reputation was five minutes late for carpool, but then also realized 3/4 of the way out to the trail that she'd forgotten.... wait for it.... her HIKING BOOTS. She had these silly little girlie shoes, and that was all she had, so she had to beg an extra pair of shoes from Isabelle (she's lucky that Isabelle had shoes to lend, and that they were close to the right size).

So, nothing we couldn't overcome, and we all had a fantastic day, capped with our obligatory trip to indulge in treats at Kilkenny.
