Marty says this was the best x-c ski trip he's done so far this year, and I have to agree it was great (but I'd probably have trouble picking a "best" trip... I also really enjoyed Martine's Pocaterra trip). We had 12 people out, and it was a great group. We split into a "sort of fast" group and a "faster than that" group for part of the day, and stayed together for the last part of the day when we happened to stumble onto each other at about 2:15. We started off following the red/black loop to the Watridge Lake Trail at intersection 16 and then stayed on the Watridge Lake Trail all the way down to Watridge Lake where we had a snack, then took that trail back out (I really enjoyed the run-out from up there - wow!). My "sort of fast" group took that trail all the way back to intersection 22 and did the easy loop near the parking lot while the "faster" group did an extra loop of hills around intersection 16 and then proceeded across at 22 and did the easy loop. This is where we all joined up at the end and proceeded across at intersection 3 into the difficult area again (orange loop), which was a lot of fun - great hills - WOW!! The map was very very helpful, although it would have been nice to have hills marked on the trail. Back to town and off to the Kilkenny (Mike's a bad influence) for dinner and a beer.
