CCC - Caribbean Deli and Indian Grocers

On Fairmount Dr SE (SE of Chinook Mall) there's a little strip mall with a Caribbean Deli (Sherry's) and my favorite Indian grocers - the new location of Calgary Spiceland.

We'll start at Sherry's and enjoy lunch and/or grab some yummies to take home, and then head next door to Spiceland and check out their exotic offerings.

Note that I've never been to Sherry's before... I just discovered it when I went to the new Spiceland the other day

Wow! Sherry's Carribbean restaurant is fanTAStic!! I had never been there before and didn't know what to expect, but as soon as I walked in the door and smelled the smells, I knew it was going to be amazing. We shared a couple of Jamaican Patty's to start, and then we each had an entree, with Jerk Chicken and Chicken Roti being popular choices. I decided to go with my theme of walking on the wild side this week and had Ox Tail Stew, which was quite yummy. After lunch we headed over to Calgary Spiceland where many wonderful smells greeted us, and many wonderful spices, dishes, sauces, snacks, and so on were discovered.

CCC - Mongolie Grill

The Scene
When it first opened a few years ago, the Mongolie Grill was an extremely difficult place to get a table. For one thing, the build-your-own-stirfry approach was rather novel at the time. Sure, the idea had been Whoppered and Subwayed to death in fast food, but rarely used in a more upscale casual dining experience. Furthermore, the well-windowed Fourth Street location was hard to beat.

While the novelty has since worn off and the hordes have dispersed, this resto is still a rather fun and popular place for a quick dinner or lunch.

The Food
In a way, it's nouveau comfort food, where the comfort comes from being able to select precisely what combination and amount of fresh raw ingredients you want to have. Healthy or decadent, spicy or tame, it's all up to you, with soup, rice and wraps included with your total. From control freaks to creative types, the Mongolie Grill's still got it covered for comfort levels of all descriptions.

CCC policy is to add 25% onto your bill - 7% GST plus 18% gratuity. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not register for this event.

Note that at 6:30 some of us will be heading over to the Globetrotters game (see calendar for more info).
CCC - Harlem Globetrotters

The World Famous Harlem Globetrotters are currently touring the United States and Canada as part of their 2006 'Unstoppable' World Tour. The four-month tour which tipped off in December and runs through April will bring the Globetrotters to nearly 200 cities across North America. In all, the Globetrotters will travel to 41 U.S. states, the District of Columbia and six Canadian provinces.

Founded in 1926 by Abe Saperstein, the Harlem Globetrotters played their first-ever road game on Jan. 7, 1927, in Hinckley, Ill. The 2005 tour marks the organization's 79th consecutive year of playing basketball and entertaining fans around the world. On Jan. 12, 1998, the Globetrotters played their historic 20,000th career game, a feat unmatched by any other professional sports team in the world.

You must meet me at Mongolie Grill by 6:30 to get your ticket, or contact me to make alternate arrangements. Join the dinner at Mongolie Grill ahead of time if you like.
