COC - Wildlife Rehab Volunteer Info Session

An excellent session today. Aurora made her "debut" with us today as the CWRS' new education owl (she's a snowy) - she'll be providing some relief to Oberon (the great horned) since he's been getting busier and busier with presentations to schools, scout groups, etc.

We heard about the operation of the CWRS, and learned about all kinds of volunteering opportunities. Then they showed us a brief video of some of the animals that they've had at the facility, including some news footage. Lastly, the tour, including more discussion about the animals and their care in the Recovery Area.

I didn't let Steph and Cheryl take "official" spots on the info session because Steph has moved to Edmonton, and Cheryl is moving away as well, but they joined in at the end, and after all the excitement died down, we were each able to take a turn holding Oberon.

Thanks to all who came out today. I hope you enjoyed the session and are interested in getting more involved with the CRWS.

Stu, the Funnyfest master, reserved us the best seats in the house and made sure we were properly mocked a couple of times throughout the evening. He also chose people from our group to be two of the four audience judges for the evening - me and Flash (Jenn). Yay!! Everyone knows Flash and I both love throwing our opinions around. Here was my personal opinion:
  • Service: very good
  • Reception from host (Stu): excellent
  • Venue: very good
  • Parking: pretty good considering it is in beltline
  • MC: Stu Hughes' jokes: funny
  • Guest 1: Pete Leschuk's jokes: not bad
  • Guest 2: James Ulof's jokes: not very funny
  • Competitor 1: Paul Pringle's jokes: not funny
  • Competitor 2: Michael Harrison's jokes: funny
  • Competitor 3: Mark Foster's jokes/songs: not funny
  • Competitor 4: Kathleen McGee's jokes: so funny I forgot to take her picture - d'oh!!
  • Competitor 5: Andrew Iwanyk: so funny I just about peed myself. Really too bad he went over his time limit and got disqualified
  • Headliner: Lars Callieou: not funny. And 40 minutes worth, too.
Thanks to Stu for a wonderful evening - we had a great time!
