This hike is dawdler heaven. It is long, with only two sections of elevation gain, but umpteen waterfalls along the way. We parked at Takkakaw Falls, and although it wasn't part of our official itinerary, we noodled on over and had an eyefull of it in all its glory. True to its word, the Yoho Valley trail did not disappoint for waterfalls. Soon after we departed, we came across the side trip for Angel's Staircase, which, once I clued in to the staircase high up on the mountain was really cool. A few minutes later, a side trip to Point Lace Falls, which did actually look like lace. Noodling our way up the trail, we soon came to an unnamed "bonus" small waterfall. A detour in to Duchesnay Lake, which wasn't that impressive itself, but was interesting with a bunch of tadpoles and caddis fly larvae floating around in the water, and dead trees standing from where the water had been higher, but then receded. Heading merrily on our way, we soon came to Laughing Falls, which was definitely one of the favorites of the day with a great canyon, and lots of rainbows in the air. We stopped there for a snack. The final hike up to Twin Falls was somewhat longer and had the most elevation gain, but the Twin Falls were astounding - many of us even liked it better than Takkakaw Falls. Along the way, we tried to figure out what the tall, distinctive peak across the valley was. It was unnamed, and although I think it is probably part of Mount Niles, we decided it was impressive enough to warrant its own name and we duly dubbed it "COC Mountain". This hike really was a dawdle... from the time we set out to the time we departed Twin Falls was FIVE HOURS. It only took us two hours to return, though - dawdle time was over.

It was great fun having Steven from Atlanta and Jacqueline from Toronto join us, too - we love visitors!

Two great big thumbs up for this one - I would recommend it to anyone!
