This was by far the quickest I ever did Chester Lake - back home by 2PM. Oh... wait a minute, maybe that's because I didn't do Chester Lake today. Instead, we (Ed, Ed, Stephanie and I) blew a tire (completely shredded it, in fact) just north of the winter gate. The jack was no good, and our cellphones were out of service, so while Ed and Ed managed to take the old tire off, and Stephanie flagged down cars hoping to catch the rest of our group on their way out (never did find them... blast! They must have all been ahead of us), I hitched a ride with Karen (from scrapbooking who says 'hi' to Carole) and her two friends to the Peter Lougheed Info Center where I called AMA for help. Vern from AMA was great, in spite of my total lack of knowledge about exactly what kind of help we needed (I wasn't sure if we actually needed help changing the tire or if we needed a tow somewhere, which caused all kinds of problems with figuring out what Vern should put into our call), and Dennis from Standish Towing was also great and sent someone out right away to help us.

Leaving the info center, I hitched a ride right away with Jerry the snow plough driver who gave me a lift all the way back to the highway. It was really nice out today, so I wasn't worried about the walk back, but it was nice to have a ride in the snow plough! At the highway, Jerry dropped me off and I started walking, but I'd only gone about 100m when a nice RCMP dude stopped and drove me the rest of the way. I even got to sit in the front seat of the cruiser!

Reunited with my carpool mates, we hung out on the side of the road rather than in the truck because it was so nice out, and Stephanie, Ed#4 and I did a bit of snow shoeing around where we waited, while Ed#1 kept watch. About an hour and a half after I made the call, the AMA guy showed up and using his heavy-duty jack, had the tire changed out in no time.

We headed on back to Calgary, and as soon as I had cell service again I called everyone on the trip and left messages about what happened to us. Hopefully they didn't wait too long and had a lovely day without us.
