Join us in the funky Marquee Room for an opportunity to meet like-minded people and participate in the direction of the arts and culture scene in Calgary. If you are interested in Calgary's arts, like to visit cool cultural spaces, or have an opinion about what would make Calgary a more vibrant place, you will want to come out for this free event. You can bring some of your friends too – just be sure to register them on this website. Calgary Arts Development will be hosting this event. They have been tasked with providing leadership and long term planning for the vibrancy of Calgary's cultural scene. So far they’ve been able to improve funding to the arts by 20% since their inception in 2005. They are looking to the Calgary Culture Club members to be a part of the big picture and give their input for a future plan about cultural spaces and public places we all share and enjoy. The ideas generated from this evening will feed into the Cultural Space Trends & Needs Analysis, to be presented to The City of Calgary early in 2007. Appetizers will be served and there will be a cash bar. Agenda: Arrive at 6 pm, mix and mingle until 6:30 pm. A succession of 3 round table talks start before 7:00 pm with a mix and mingle/wrap up by 8 pm. Calgary Arts Development gratefully acknowledges the generous partnership of The Urban Campus Initiative through The University of Calgary and The Calgary Foundation that helped make this project possible.
This event gave everyone who attended the opportunity to talk about some of the issues relating to the arts and culture space in Calgary. In addition to the CCC members, a few other community-minded people came out for a cafe style discussion about Calgary's culture scene. Holly Simon from the Calgary Art Development Authority (CADA) was articulate in giving everyone an understanding of why our input was valuable. Her team members - Cheryl, David and Jennifer - helped to make the evening fun and thought-provoking. We're all looking forward to the study that will take into consideration the results from this evening's meeting.
