2008-01-17 : COC - Belly of Steel, and CCC - Tuba & Trombone Appreciation Night
COC - Belly of Steel
CCC - Tuba & Trombone Appreciation Night (MAN - Tuba/Trombone Theme)

Arrive at 6:30PM for introductions and to get settled in. We'll start the music selections at 7:00 (sorry, but to avoid interruption if you are later than 7:00, the door buzzer will be shut off and you won't be able to get in). We should have one CD of approximately 80 minutes of music (8 people times ten minutes of music). We will have a round-robin in which the first person will introduce their music, and then we’ll listen. After a short break, we’ll continue with the next person, and so on.

My apartment is small, and the atmosphere casual. We'll be sitting or laying around the living room while we listen. Bring a pillow or cushion if you like for maximum comfiness.

Everyone must contribute 6-10 minutes of music for the evening. If the evening has a “theme” (listed in the title), you should (but don’t have to) bring music that fits your interpretation of the theme. Many of our themes are DELIBERATELY ambiguous for maximum creativity!

2008-01-18 : COC - Novice-Intermediate Ski, and Night Skiing at the Canmore Nordic Centre
Hilly Fun: Novice-Intermediate Ski, Slowwww Pace

As far as skiing goes, it was a lovely day. Fantastic conditions, although a bit slow with a fresh dump of heavy snow. Excellent temperatures, beautiful snow-brushed scenery.

As far as events go, it was a bit of a gong show, starting with a very delayed carpool depature because of roads/traffic conditions, and then an hour-long delay at trailhead when one car went MIA and the rest of the group went to an alternate trailhead (ironically, the MIA car pulled into the far end of the original trailhead at the exact same moment as the rest of us were pulling out, which is why we never found each other). Thanks to Diane for taking her group out for a ski while the rest of us did another route. We did run into them on about our third-to-last kilometer, so at least we all knew everyone was ok/safe.

2008-01-20 : COC - Urban Hike - Walk around the Glenmore Reservoir
The hike started off a bit on the chilly side with the winds sweeping across the Reservoir. Once we hit the trees however the temperature (which sat around -16 before the windchil) did not seem so bad. The pathway through the Weaslehead was snow covered requiring a little more effort than on the cleared sections and yes, Rhonda - you were in the fast group! At the end of the hike warming up at Good Earth with a bite to eat everyone had rosy cheeks; all were relaxed and content after a good outing.

2008-01-26 : COC - Eau Claire/Crescent Heights/Kensington/Bow River Loop
The weather was pleasant, at about zero, for our walk which started at Eau Claire. We made it up the stairs by the curling club without a stop and enjoyed the views from the McHugh Bluff path. We windowshopped up and down the streets in Kensington and managed to look but not buy at Crave cupcakes.
We stopped for coffee at the homey Heartland Cafe and couldn't resist visiting one consignment clothing shop before we all disbursed home.
Thank you for a pleasant outing of walking and talking. Laura L
