Trip Log

Notes Actions
Calgary Stroll of Poets. CCC member and co-coordinator of this event, Joy Middlestead, will be reading some of her poetry. We'll go see her and some other poets of Joy's choice (since she knows the good stuff) at various venues in Calgary.

Along with Dean Morrison, Liam Volke, Karen Gummo, Martin Sutcliffe, and Lori D. Roadhouse, Joy will be reading at the Kensington Pub, between 1:30 and 2:30PM. If you want to join us for the opening at Annie's, meet there at 11:45, otherwise join us at 1:15 at Kensington Pub.
I have gone a couple (or more) times before with my mom (Joy) who reads in the Calgary Stroll of Poets nearly every year. She's quite talented, if I do say so myself. ;)

This year was the first time we brought some CCC folk with us and I hope they had as good a time as I did - it was a fantastic time. We started off at Annie's and then went down to Kensington Pub, which is where Mom (Joy) read. Then a few of us went down to Second Cup for a bit more, but it is not a great venue for poetry with the loud cappucino machines competing with the poets for airtime.

Here is one of Joy's poems (one of my favorites):

Pink

When choosing the paint
for my house
I picture quiet pink
but on the walls
it speaks in a loud
strident voice:
A female lives here
alone

Not so long ago
and not alone
I wasn't allowed
to paint the insides
of the cupboards white

He insisted on
pale shit-brindle
brown

The siding
on my house
is pink
and the rosebush
by my front step
seethes
with pink blossoms
